Netscape Messenger Setup
Follow the written instructions and illustrations below to set
up the Netscape Messenger e-mail application on your Norwich University
computer. Netscape Messenger gives on-campus users an alternative
to the standard Web-based CLiC e-mail interface. Messenger will
not, however, replace the Web-based CLiC e-mail interface. The Web-based
version of CLiC will continue to be a valuable tool for those traveling
or viewing their Norwich e-mail from home. You will see the same
e-mail messages whether you utilize the Netscape Messenger program,
or continue using the Web-based version of CLiC e-mail. Some features,
such as your personal address book, may vary.
NOTE: Each computer is set up differently, so you
may not see the same icons, options, colors, settings, etc. as are
displayed on this page.
1. Open Netscape Mail and Newsgroups by double-clicking the icon labeled "Netscape Mail & Newsgroups" on your desktop. You may also open Netscape by clicking the Start button, choosing Programs menu, selecting Netscape 7.1 (or 7.2), and clicking on Netscape Mail & Newsgroups.
2. With Netscape now open, click the Edit menu to expand its contents. Select Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings… Note: When Starting Netscape Mail and Newgsgroups for the first time, you will automatically skip this step.
3. With the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings window open, choose Add Account which will bring up the Account Wizard and New Account Setup. Choose Email account, then click on Next.
4. In the Your Name: field, type in your name as you would like it to be displayed in the "From" field for outgoing messages. In the Email Address: field, type your entire email address including: "@norwich.edu". Then click Next.
5. Click on IMAP for the type of incoming server
you are using. NOTE: Do Not choose POP, as that will remove all
of your mail from the Norwich Server. In the Incoming Server:
field, type: "postoffice.norwich.edu" Some of you may have an additional
field for Outgoing Server (SMTP) which you would
type: "mailsend.norwich.edu"
*If the Outgoing (SMTP) server is not
listed as norwich.edu, please see the step below to correct this.
6. Verify that this is correct and hit Next.
7. Verify that this is correct and hit Next.
8. Lookover this information and then hit Finish. Congratulations! You have successfully set up Netscape Messenger. It will now bring you into your email and prompt you to enter your password. You will enter your CLiC password. Be sure not to check the button to remember your password.
* If your Outgoing Server Name is not norwich.edu you can fix it repeating step number 2 above once you have logged in. Once you have selected Mail and Newsgroup Account Settings, scroll down to where it says Outgoing Server (SMTP) and single click on it. Over to the right where it says Server Name, type in "mailsend.norwich.edu" and then hit OK.
